Project meeting at USHMM (November 2025)

On 17th and 18th November 2025, the project team had a meeting with members of the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, DC, USA to present project outputs and get feedback on our software and methods. We described our manual and automatic analyses of the Holocaust survivor testimonies using Natural Language Processing (NLP) and spatial humanities techniques for entity extraction and classification plus the analysis of journeys and emotions represented in the data. Ignatius Ezeani also collected requirements for his Lancaster University Joy Welch funded project on a prototype ‘copilot’ for Holocaust testimonies which is bringing state of the art large language models to the data in order to evaluate their potential usefulness and investigate ethical concerns when doing so.
